Educational Scholarship: Small Steps. Big Impact
The presentation below was presented on October 8th, 2024, at the 2024 Physician's Assistants Education Association National Meeting in Washington, DC.
Description
In the rapidly evolving field of healthcare, continuous professional development is crucial for Physician Assistants (PAs) to remain at the forefront of medical advancements and patient care. This session is designed to introduce PAs to the concept of micro-scholarship and how it can enhance their professional growth, and contribute to improving PA clinical education, and ultimately patient outcomes. Micro-scholarship involves engaging in small, manageable scholarly activities that collectively lead to significant professional and academic achievements. Through a combination of interactive discussions, practical examples, and hands-on activities, participants will learn how to incorporate micro-scholarship into their busy schedules, create a culture of continuous learning, and make meaningful contributions to the field.
### Objectives

Define micro-scholarship, its benefits, and its relevance in clinical education research
Discuss how small, consistent scholarly activities can lead to significant professional achievements.
Identify various micro-scholarship activities suitable for PAs (e.g., case reports, literature reviews, quality improvement projects).
Offer practical tips for integrating micro-scholarship into daily practice.
Discuss ways to maintain momentum and sustain engagement in micro-scholarship.
By the end of this workshop, participants will have a clear understanding of how micro-scholarship can be integrated into their professional practice, the tools to begin their own micro-scholarship projects, and the motivation to pursue continuous learning and improvement.
